Hexadome

  The Console

The Console is your interface to the game. Look at the console as a TV screen attached to a camera monitoring the Hexadome world. The Console does not store any information locally, but simply provides a view of the world as the server sees it - or rather, as the server saw it a second ago. This means a couple of things:

  1. If your browser (or your PC) crashes or you simply turn it off, no information is lost.
  2. Since the picture you see can be up to a few seconds old, there is a slight chance that the actual situation is slightly different from what you think it is.
  3. Donīt bother hacking the datastream from the server - what the console shows you is what the server wants you to see. And trust you me, the graphical view presented by the Console is a lot more intuitive than the raw data ;).
  Sector Plan

The sector plan shows an overview of the complete map, divided into sectors, each of which corresponds to 10 tiles. The sectorplan is updated regularly, but it emphasizes the sectors surrounding the one currently displayed in the location monitor, and thus may not be completely updated in other areas.

Activating another region (by clicking in it) immediately updates it, however.

The sectorplan uses dots in different colors and sizes to indicate the following items on the map:

  • Small green dot: Own unit
  • Small red dot: Enemy unit
  • Small yellow dot: Allied unit
  • Large yellow dot: Resource
  • Large blue dot: Resource portal

Energy outlets are marked with larger dots in one of the following three colors:

  1. Dark green: Unoccupied outlet
  2. Bright green: Outlet occupied by one of your own units
  3. Bright red: Outlet occupied by enemy or an ally
  Command Module

The command module displays information about the selected unit, and provides access to the following commands:

  • Upgrade:
Allow you to increase the size of your units.
    ?
  • Split:
Allow you to split the selected unit in two smaller entities. The scrollbar indicates the size of the current vs. the new unit after the split (default is a 50/50 split)
    ?
  • Camp:
Allow you to camp the selected unit providing better defence at the cost of a large amount of movement points. Beware, that once dug in, the unit needs a similar amount of movement points to un-camp (I.e. if you camp and have no movement points left, you will have to wait until the unit accumulate enough movements points to be un-camped.)
    ?
  • Spying:
When you select an enemy unit, the command module will show a pin labeled "unknown". At the bottom of the display there is a button that says "spy" followed by a number. The number is the price you pay for spying, the higher your rank, the higher the price. Remember that the information you get is a snapshot of the unit in its current state - it is not updated unless you spy on the unit again (Only exception to this is the unit size which will update if you attack the unit).

The two smaller buttons at the bottom allow you to quickly cycle between your own units.

  Location Monitor

The location monitor is your primary means of navigation and control. It allow you to easily perform the following tasks:

  • Move units.
Simply select a unit, and drag to the desired location. The location monitor automatically finds the shortest path, and indicates the number of moves required to get there. The location monitor will not allow you to move somewhere where you canīt be (E.g. in water or mountains), or further than the number of movement points allow.
If you drag outside the visible region, the map will scroll accordingly.
You can cancel a move in progress by pressing the Escape key, but you must do so BEFORE releasing the mouse button.
    ?
  • Attack units.
Simply select the unit you want to perform the attack, and then drag to select the enemy you wish to attack. Note that the enemy must be within range for the attack to be carried out - if this is not the case, you must first move the unit. The location monitor will not allow you to attack something that canīt be attacked or something that requires more movement points than you have.
When you select the enemy unit, youīll see two things:
    1. The number of movements point required to carry out the attack is shown next to the "attack" label.
    2. A yellow/red line will be drawn from each of your other units within range of the enemy, towards the enemy, indicating that they are supporting the attack. A number will appear above each of these units, indicating how many movement points that particular unit needs to support the attack.
    ?
  • Join units.
Simply select one of the units you wish to join, and drag to select the other. The joined unit will be placed at the second units position. Note that units cannot be joind unless they are of the same type.
  • Scroll the view
Drag anywhere on the map where there are no units located, and the view will scroll accordingly. Note, that the view can also be scrolled from the sectorplan (which, in some cases, is a lot faster).
    ?

Enemy units are indicated with a pin rendered in the owners color, and your own units are rendered in their actual appearance. If a unit is in its safe or calm period, it is rendered semi transparent. Any of the units may have one of the following icons attached:

Unit is busy processing your last command.
Unit got injured during its last war (icon disappears next time unit is activated).
Unit won its last war (icon disappears next time unit is activated).
Unit is dead (icon and unit disappears next time you log off or, in the case of enemy units, shortly after the unit is killed).
Unit is camped.
  The Stock View
The stock view provides five tabs:
  1. Log
The log window show the results of some of the actions you take as well as various game messages, such as the outcome of a fight and location of newly revealed resources.
  2. Players
The player list contain all currently active players - Click on any player to target your chat messages at that player.
  3. Buy
The buy tab lists all the types, but some are marked as "not available". These units are either too expensive or requires a higher player level than you currently have. Units are also unavailable for purchase if you already own one of that type. Once you have one unit of a given type, you can get more by upgrading and splitting this unit. You buy a unit by simply dragging it from the stock view to the desired location in the location monitor. There are no particular limits to where you can drop the unit (other than those that apply to normal movement).
  4. Powerups
The powerup tab lists all the powerups you have available. Each powerup has a small description attached - read this before using the powerup. You use a powerup by dragging it from the powerup tab to a unit of your choice - this can be ANY unit, your own, and allied or an enemy.
  5. Research
Some units can be improved through research. The reseach pane shows the possible research paths for the selected unit (up to 3 different).
