  Battle strategies in general

Oki, lets start out by pointing out some of the basics in the battle strategies, these are strategies that goes for ALL maps. It’s always useful to check the unit stats of the units you acquire, this is done by pressing the question mark just left of the mini map.

Ranged attacks.

It’s always a good idea to use a unit with long range when attacking. The ranged attack strategy requires a unit with a range as great as possible. This unit is going to be the lead unit in the attack. It’s supposed to be placed as far away from the opponent’s base as the range of the unit allows. The idea is to get out of as many support defenders defense as possible. A little illustration.

  • X = Blank Squares.
  • L = Lead unit.
  • A = Supporters (assistance)
  • M = Enemy lead defender – main target. (the unit your attacking)
  • E = Other enemy units.
L X X X X X X X X X X X X X X
X A A A A A A A A A X X X X X
X A A A A A A A A A X X X X X
X A A A A A A A A A X X X X X
X A A A A A A A A A X X X X X
X A A A A M E E E E E E E E E
X A A A A E E E E E E E E E E
X A A A A E E E E E E E E E E
X A A A A E E E E E E E E E E
X A A A A E E E E E E E E E E

This could be a typical base in Treasure Island, Voodoo Time, Americas etc. In the example the lead attacker (L) has a range of 5, and the attack supporter has a range of 4. Lets say that all the defenders have range 6. Then it would mean that the lead attacker would only be hit by 4 units, but lets say we switch the leader with the attack supporter that I have marked. And then run the attack ones again, then it would be hit by 18 units, which would also mean that the defense power (damage) would be a lot greater. The same goes for support attackers you can get into the attack the higher the attack power is.

It’s simple isn’t it???

This is the most important of all attack strategies.

For testing check out the battle simulator made by Tornsoul, it allows you to try out any crazy idea you might have.

Kamikaze

This strategy is when you calculate on losing units.

Imagine this situation…

Your up against a defense that’s a lot stronger then you are which means that when ever you attack you lead attacker either dies or loses most of it’s size while only inflicting a minimum in damage.

This is what you do; you find the most powerful support attackers and put them around the target (as many as possible of cause) And then you find a unit that’s cheap and that gives only a little amount of xp the the opponent and then you attack, and pray that you can inflict just 1 damage to the target, cause it doesn’t matter if your lead attacker dies or not.

That’s just about all the tactics im going to share with ya all at this point…

Good luck, and have a good fight!

  Darkland

The key to Darkland is to get gold, and to get on to check on the game every 3-6 hours or so…

This is not a game I would recommend for newbies cause the competition in here is fierce at the moment. But if you still feel that you need to play a slow game then this isn’t that bad a choice after all.

The units that should be used here are:

  1. Towers - Towers are made from Barbwires.
  2. Troopers.
  3. Dwarfs.
  4. Brutes - Brutes are made from Peons.
  5. (Carriers and Fighters. But they are rare on the map because you need to get player lvl 3 to get them, which is quite difficult). Both are made from Recons.
  Voodoo Time

A good map for newbies, but then again…

This map is different from most maps because of it’s long safe/calm periods and it’s silence periods, this combined with the fact that it’s a fast paced game makes it very dynamic and fun to play, but it’s at the same time very hard to stay alive cause of the strong attack units and the weak defense units.

Also here the Gold is of key importance.

Use several carriers and brutes to get the gold, but be aware that the brutes only gets 2 moves pr update and the carriers only gets 1.

Important units.

  1. Hooverbase - The Hooverbase can be bought from the beginning but unfortunately it has a VERY long safe/calm period which means that you can't attack with it within the first two hours, ones you get it lvl’ed up and feel it’s time to build a base then it can be researched to a Hexadome which is the best defensive unit on the map.
  2. Hexadome - The only problem with the hexadome is it’s research time which is very high (im not exactly sure how high but my guess would be 15 hours)
  3. Apocalypse - Made from Axemen.
  4. Knight - Made from Axemen.
  5. Paladin - Made from Axemen.
  6. Excalibur - Made from Axemen.
  7. Destroyer - Made from hydro jets, but like all of the other units I have mentioned here they also need +1 (or more) to be made.
  8. Sky Dragon - Made from Sky Falcon. The Sky Dragon is the best of the Sky units, but also the hardest one to get.
  9. Sky Drake - Made from Sky Falcon.
  10. Firestorms

The higher you research from the Axeman the better.

  Space Station

Gold is of importance; the best unit that is easily available is the brute. But be careful and make sure you have a dwarf or a trooper following them so they have just a little bit of protection In case someone comes a long and wants some fun.

Important units in Space Station:

  1. Trooper
  2. Dwarf
  3. Brute - Made form Peons.
  4. Tower - Made from Barbwires.
  5. Pods
  Fairytale

Gold is the key to success, if you wanna do well then you have to collect gold from the very beginning. The best units to collect gold with is Carriers and if you have a spot close to water then also submarines. You need player lvl 1 to buy pods which means you have to kill minimum two enemy units to get pods.

Fairytale is the slowest game on the site, it requires around 10 min’s of play pr. Day to be able to do well. Those 10 min’s should be split up into two periods of 5 min’s with 12 hours or so in between.

This will be sufficient to compete with even the most hardcore players (if you know what your doing that is)

It’s a good thing to protect the pods you get with either you ForceField or Towers.

The most important units in Fairytale:

  1. Towers - Made by researching a barbwire.
  2. Carriers - Made by researching a Recon.
  3. Trooper
  4. Sentry - Made available when you get player lvl 1.
  5. Basecamp - Made by an lvl 1 sentry.
  6. ForceField
  Treasure Island

Treasure Island is probably the most interesting game on the Hexadome site. This game has dynamics like in no other game…

In Treasure Island, or TI as it’s called, gold is easy to get… but you will also need a shit load of it, so don’t think it’s “too” easy :)

Mines are the most common unit on the TI map, people always build tons of them, why?

Well that’s a simple question. The mines gives negative xp to the person who kills them so people doesn’t kill them unless they have no other choice… Another reason is that they are very cheap.

So it’s a good idea to surround your base with them, I would say that 5 rows would be ok.

Carriers are the best units to gather gold with, cause they can carry $5000 and they get 20 moves pr update, this combined with the fact that they move on ordinary ground and water makes them the perfect choice for goldies :)

The ForceField is the most important single unit on the map, it’s great when it comes to attacking bases because of it’s long range, and it’s good at defense because of it’s high defensive powers and it’s long range.

The Basecamps are also of great importance, but they can only be gained by researching +1 Towers. The special thing about Basecamps is that they get a persist powerup when being researched, which means they survive a game restart (if they are alive at the end of the game).

The most important units in TI is:

  1. ForceField
  2. Towers - Made by researching Barbwires with less size then 250
  3. Hellfires - Made by researching Barbwires
  4. Basecamps - Basecamps are made of +1 Towers.
  5. Mines - Made from Barbwires.
  6. Pods
  7. Carriers - Made by researching Recons or by researching a Peon into an Axeman and then into a Carrier.
  Americas

This map is a map where strategy and knowledge plays are huge role, you need to know most aspects of the game to be able to do well here.

The map has some advantages like it’s possible to stay alive while getting your 6 hours daily sleep, if you know how to build you base and if you can get a hold of the right units.

The down side however is that it’s also difficult to kill others if they build their base correctly. This is where the word siege comes in, cause that’s what we’re really talking about. It can take hours to kill a base, but when you’re finally done you will feel more relived then you have ever felt in your entire life, and it will be worth doing over and over again… well almost :)

This is a map where you will get nowhere without working for your money, you can’t get enough of them, you will soon realize what the word working means. A good idea would be to use 20 carriers or 20 brutes to collect gold, and even this won’t last long if you’re planning on kicking ass…

The ForceField is, without a doubt, the one unit that is the heart of every defense in Americas, it can be used as pod, which allows you to make it center of your base if you want.

The Basecamps can be used to complete the base, meaning that you will find that the Force Field alone wont do the job, and then you will need the Basecamps to supply the additional firepower in the defense.

On the other side we have the attackers where the Rocket is the heart, you simply can’t live without a rocket when attacking a base – unless you know 100% what you’re doing and is up for a loooong night :)

The Towers supplies additional firepower in the attacks along side with bombers, Robots and Flamers.

The most important units in Americas is:

  1. Brutes - Gained by researching a peon.
  2. Carriers - Obtained by researching a Recon.
  3. ForceField
  4. Basecamps - Can only be acquired by researching a +1 Tower.
  5. Rockets - Obtained by researching a +2 Trooper.
  6. Towers - Made by researching barbwires.
  7. Robots - Made from +1 Recons.
