You need a unit to collect resources. There are several units
that can do this, but the peon is a good first choice.

- Select the buy-tab in the lower right of the screen (dollar-sign icon).
- Find the Peon unit in the list.
- Drag it to the map, and place it on the resource.
- Select the Peon by clicking on it.

In the top left of the screen you can see the properties of your new unit.
The cargo field tells you how many resources the unit picked up.
